Fear Factory guitarist Dino Cazares recently sparked discussion about creating an all-female metal festival. He shared his vision in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Cazares initially proposed the concept of a female-focused metal festival. He compared it to the successful Lilith Fair format.
“Someone needs to create the Lilith Fair of Metal,” Cazares said. “There are so many talented women in metal today, vocalists, guitarists, drummers, you name it. An all-female metal fest would not only work, it would destroy. The time is right.”
The proposal drew responses from fans. One fan challenged him to name specific bands.
When asked “Like who? Name 3 all female metal bands that are good without Google,” Cazares clarified his original statement.
“I never said an all female band, I just said bands with females in them,” he responded. “Spiritbox, Jinjer, Arch Enemy, Bolt Thrower, Kittie to name a few.”
Cazares’s reference to Lilith Fair draws from a significant precedent in music festival history. This precedent demonstrated the commercial viability of female-focused events.
Wikipedia reported that Lilith Fair was founded by Sarah McLachlan and became the top-grossing touring music festival of the 1990s. The festival’s success proved that audiences were eager for platforms showcasing female talent across various musical genres.
The original Lilith Fair addressed a critical gap in the music industry where female artists often struggled for equal representation.
