Former Trivium drummer Alex Bent recently opened up about his departure from the band and shared his plans for the future in an interview with Metal Drummers United.

Bent reflected on his time with the band and expressed gratitude to fans who have supported him throughout his career.

“I remember when I first joined [Trivium], it was, like, ‘Gosh, another drummer? Really?’ But people that I met ended up becoming friends for life. So I appreciate every single fan that’s come out to the shows, that, even to this day, books lessons with me or wants a signed stick or wants to do [interviews] like this, man. I really appreciate it, man,” he said.

The drummer emphasized his commitment to continuing his music career despite his departure from the band.

“And just know I’m not going anywhere, man. I’m never planning on stopping. I don’t have a backup plan. That’s how I’ve always been since high school. I remember counselors would be, like, ‘Well, what are you gonna do? You can’t just bank on this music thing.’ And I’m, like, ‘Nope. That’s exactly what I’m gonna do.’ So I’m not going anywhere, man. So anybody that supports me, I love you. I appreciate you guys, and I’m looking forward to the future, whatever that will be,” Bent continued.

He clarified misconceptions about his intentions and outlined his current status as a musician.

“There’s nothing locked in stone. I don’t have anything… I’m happy with where I’m at, but I want to get back on the road, for sure. So, yeah, I think a lot of people are under the assumption that I’m trying to slow down or something, and that’s not the case at all,” he explained.

“I feel like I’m just getting started. So I would love to just continue working with the bands. I’m a free agent, and that’s the first time I’ve been a free agent in almost 10 years. So I’m, like, bring it on, man. Studio work, touring, whatever, teaching. I wanna do this. So, that’s pretty much what I’m doing, man. I’m just, like, ‘Hey, I’m open. Let’s go. Let’s do this.'”

Bent’s departure from Trivium marks the end of a significant chapter in both his career and the band’s history. The split comes after several successful years together. During this time, the drummer contributed to multiple recordings and tours.

Blabbermouth reported that Bent’s final recording with Trivium was the “Struck Dead” three-song EP released in October via Roadrunner Records. The EP was produced by Trivium and recorded with Mark Lewis at Hangar Studios in Orlando, Florida. It serves as a capstone to his time with the band.

Both parties have handled the transition professionally. Chaoszine noted that Trivium and Bent have amicably parted ways with no hard feelings after three successful records together. This mutual respect has allowed both the drummer and the band to move forward positively.

Trivium has already secured Bent’s replacement for their upcoming commitments. Blunt Magazine confirmed that the band recruited Alex Rüdinger, formerly of Whitechapel, to sit behind the kit starting with their fall 2025 North American tour. This quick transition demonstrates the band’s commitment to maintaining their touring schedule.

For Bent, this marks his first time as a free agent in nearly a decade. This opens up new possibilities for collaborations and projects. His openness to various opportunities, from studio work to touring and teaching, suggests that fans can expect to see him active in the metal scene in different capacities moving forward.
