Former Sodom drummer Atomic Steif has passed away at the age of 57. The band announced this on Facebook.
Sodom bassist and vocalist Thomas ‘Angelripper’ Such shared the news and confirmed the drummer’s death in a statement to fans.
“Dear Sodomaniacs. As I was informed today, our former drummer ‘Atomic Steif’ passed away at the end of last week,” Such said. “The circumstances of his death are currently unknown. R.I.P., pal…”
Atomic Steif’s death marks the loss of a significant figure in the German thrash metal scene. He made notable contributions during his career spanning multiple influential bands.
Wikipedia reported that Atomic Steif was a member of Sodom from 1993 to 1995. He contributed to key albums such as Get What You Deserve, Masquerade In Blood, and the EP Aber Bitte Mit Sahne. His tenure with the band came during a crucial period in Sodom’s evolution as one of Germany’s pioneering thrash metal acts.
