Erik Grönwall recently posted a new video on YouTube, where he reviewed his cover of Judas Priest’s ‘Painkiller.’
In response to comments under the music video, claiming his version was better than the original sung by Rob Halford, the singer said, “This, I don’t get. When people say it’s better than the original, I don’t get it. I, of course, appreciate it, but to me, the original is always the original, and you can never beat an original. In my opinion. But I, of course, like when you guys like it that much.”
Grönwall’s cover came out in January last year, featuring Erik Modin on drums and Love Magnusson on lead guitar. Jona Tee produced, mixed, and mastered the track, whose release followed the singer’s first album with Skid Row, ‘The Gang is All Here.’
Grönwall talked about joining Skid Row to replace ZP Theart shortly after the album arrived, telling The Rock N’ Roll & Coffee Shop, “There’s so many different types of fans. I’ve realized that… ’Cause when we did the show in California, [some] people came up to me after the show, and they were, like, ‘Sebastian [Bach], you’ve still got it.’ [Laughs] Yeah, that happened. Then you have the fans who still think that Sebastian is in the band, and then you have the fans who know the whole story.”
The band’s sixth studio record was also the only one with Grönwall, as he left earlier this year due to health issues. The frontman was previously diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and underwent bone marrow surgery for treatment.
The ex-Skid Row member is now preparing for a 2025 tour with Michael Schenker to support Schenker’s new ‘My Years With UFO’ album.
