Cherie Currie recently unleashed her anger towards Joan Jett, although the duo is known to be on good terms despite their band’s breakup. It seems like some things happened in the past that Currie couldn’t get over. The one that angered the former Runaways singer the most was that Blackheart Records did not release the album she worked so hard to create.

After the disbandment of The Runaways, an iconic rock band that represented women in the rock and roll world, the band members decided to go their own way. While Joan Jett actively continued making music, Cherie Currie took a step back and slowed down in her career. However, she still wanted to make music and worked on an album around 2013.

Since she was under contract with Blackheart Records, the album had to go through Kenny Laguna and Joan Jett. According to Currie, they both loved the album but were reluctant to release it, which made her very angry. In a recent interview, Currie was asked if there would be a Runaways reunion, but she looked at it very negatively. Firstly, she said Lita Ford doesn’t like Kenny Laguna, and secondly, Joan Jett did her wrong when she refused to release her album.

She said:

“No, it’s just not going to happen because Lita doesn’t like Kenny, so Joan and Lita never see eye to eye. I’ve performed with all the girls individually. I am the only band member that has just up until the last few years. But the thing is, this record is being shelved. I was 50 years old when I made that record, and I am 63 now. I even put myself on tour in 2013 to try to push Blackheart to release the record. And I was like, ‘Kenny, please don’t let me sit for another summer, please. I need to get out, and you need to put this record out.’

‘Well, it’s not the right time.’ When is the f*cking right time? It’s already been 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 years. I don’t understand. I am so furious at this point with Joan and Kenny because Joan knew. She had listened to the record, she said, ‘God, love this.’ What the f*ck happened? Why did they do this to me? I thought they were my family, but the thing is, they just stopped me. There is no excuse for it; it’s criminal.”

The singer is still furious and expressed how much she needed to put her new album out there. Currie said that she even signed herself up for a tour in 2013 to pressure her label to release her creations. She clearly still blames Joan and Kenny for stopping her music career and thinks that this is extremely cruel.
