Ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer Joins Pearl Jam As Touring Member

Even though Josh Klinghoffer departed from Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2019, his fans will now be able to see him on stage with another rock band, Pearl Jam.

The guitarist Josh Klinghoffer joined Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2007, replacing their former guitarist John Frusciante. However, in 2019, the band considered rehiring John and had to fire Klinghoffer reluctantly. The band announced the news to Josh by stating that they wanted John to come back and therefore he had to go. The guitarist was very understanding even though he was upset, as he knew that Frusciante belonged with that band more than him.

Here is what he stated about his departure:

“They just said, ‘We’ll get right to it. We’ve decided to ask John to come back to the band.’ And I just sat there quiet for a second, and I said, ‘I’m not surprised.’ The only thing I could think to say was, ‘I wish I could have done something with you guys, musically or creatively, that would have made this an absolute impossibility.’

John and Flea have a musical language. I’ll never be able to contend with the history he and John had.”

Josh was the youngest member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when he was inducted in 2012 at the age of 32. With Red Hot Chili Peppers, he released two studio albums ‘I’m With You’ in 2011 and ‘The Getaway’ in 2016. Both albums were very successful, and ‘The Getaway’ made its debut at No. 1 in ten countries.

After he departed from the band, he continued to produce music as a solo artist under the name of Pluralone. He released two studio albums and two singles that were the covers of Italian and Brazilian songs ‘Io Sono Quel Che Sono’ and ‘Menina Mulher Da Pele Preta.’ Regardless, he is not only focusing on his solo career as he seems to have found a place in a new rock band recently.

A few days ago, the guitarist joined Pearl Jam on their live stage show in Sea.Hear.Now Festival. He played the guitar, percussion and sang back vocals throughout the entire show. The band’s representative later confirmed that Josh will be joining Pearl Jam on stage as a touring guitarist during their upcoming 2022 European tour.
