In a recent video shared by Metallica’s official Twitter account, James Hetfield explained that the band’s forthcoming album, ‘72 Seasons,’ is basically about the first 18 years of one’s life. So, it focuses on how one develops a sense of self, starting from childhood. Upon seeing this video of Hetfield, Metallica’s former bassist Ron McGovney replied by showing his respect to the singer.
“I’m proud to have spent many of those 72 seasons knowing and watching James play guitar in local bands, finally helping to form Metallica at age 18,” McGovney wrote, drawing attention to his long acquaintance with Hetfield. As someone who has known James that long, the bassist witnessed a significant part of the frontman’s life.
Ron continued, sharing his respect and admiration for James Hetfield by writing, “I always looked up to him as a musician when we were teenagers.” It seems like McGovney had always believed in Hetfield’s potential as a singer and musician. So, he feels happy and proud to have played a part in the frontman’s later massive success with Metallica.
Metallica’s eleventh studio album, ‘72 Seasons,’ is scheduled to be released on April 14, 2023. It will mark the band’s first record in seven years after 2016’s ‘Hardwired… to Self-Destruct.’ Thus, the fans are eagerly waiting to finally get a taste of new Metallica material after this relatively long break.
While the first single, ‘Lux Æterna,’ arrived on November 28, along with a music video, it is unknown when the second single will drop. Following the release of the first track from the upcoming album, Ron McGovney also shared his thoughts on the song, revealing that he really enjoyed listening to it due to its old-school Metallica vibe.
