Former Metallica bassist Ron McGovney recently took to X to respond to a fan’s portrayal of Hulk Hogan as a member of Metallica.

In a post shared on X, a user imagined the retired wrestler as part of the band, complete with a Metallica t-shirt and guitar. McGovney commented on the post, saying:

“Not another Metallica bass player. Geez…..”

The Hulk Hogan And Metallica Saga

This humorous exchange refers back to Hogan’s controversial claim that he almost joined Metallica as a bassist. The story originated from a statement Hogan made to The Sun, claiming he was once close to joining Metallica, citing his friendship with drummer Lars Ulrich. He said:

“I used to be a session musician before I was a wrestler. I played bass guitar. I was big pals with Lars Ulrich, and he asked me if I wanted to play bass with Metallica in their early days, but it didn’t work out.”

The claim gained widespread attention, even reaching Howard Stern, who later questioned Ulrich about it. Ulrich’s response was as follows:

“Hulk who?”

Hogan’s Changing Story

Following skepticism about his claim, Hogan altered his story. In an interview with Noisey, he admitted that while he never actually auditioned for Metallica, he did make efforts to join by sending tapes and making calls to their management, which went unanswered.

The story took a funny turn when James Hetfield saw a doctored photo of Hulk Hogan with the band during an interview. Hetfield found it amusing and confusing, laughing at the idea and expressing disbelief about Hogan’s claim of auditioning for Metallica, while also recognizing the humor in the situation.
