Ex-Arch Enemy singer Alissa White-Gluz has announced the release of her first new song with her new band Blue Medusa, as reported on Instagram.

The release came the same day Arch Enemy announced their parting after 11 years, stating, “We’re thankful for the time and music we’ve shared and we wish her all the best.”

White-Gluz made the announcement about the new single “Checkmate” and encouraged fans to share their thoughts on the music video. Blue Medusa features guitarists Alyssa Day and Dani Sophia alongside White-Gluz.

“OUT NOW!! GORGONS!! Have you watched the music video for Blue Medusa’s ‘Checkmate?’ What do you think?” White-Gluz said. “Send this to someone who could use this song in their life right now. THANK YOU for your support!”

The announcement has received positive feedback from fans, with supporters praising both the song and its accompanying music video. One fan described the chorus as particularly catchy and expressed hope to see Blue Medusa perform live. Another called the release “breathtaking” and said it “feels like coming home.”

This new venture marks a significant transition for White-Gluz, who has been a prominent figure in the metal scene for over a decade.

The Rock Revival reported that White-Gluz joined Arch Enemy in 2014 when then-vocalist Angela Gossow decided to retire from performing. Her debut with the band came on the album War Eternal, which became one of their most successful releases and helped establish her as a leading voice in modern metal.

During her tenure with Arch Enemy, Ethereal Metal noted that White-Gluz guided the band through one of the most successful eras in its history. She expanded their global audience and performed on some of the world’s biggest stages. Her powerful vocal style and stage presence helped cement Arch Enemy’s position as one of metal’s premier acts.

The formation of Blue Medusa represents a new creative chapter for the vocalist. Ethereal Metal revealed that White-Gluz expressed enthusiasm about working with her new bandmates, saying “The musical chemistry I feel with these women is really bringing me back to life. It is so refreshing and exciting.”

The timing of Blue Medusa’s debut single coinciding with the official announcement of White-Gluz’s departure from Arch Enemy suggests a carefully planned transition. Louder Sound confirmed that the parting was amicable, with both parties expressing mutual respect and gratitude for their collaborative years together.
