Talking about name meanings and psychedelia, the name Tame Impala is also inspired by the same theme. Parker had wanted a name that represented the genre, to begin with. Aesthetically and sound-wise, Tame Impala seems to have achieved his desires. The musician also added some sparkles from his heritage and personality during the thought process of the name. Inspired by his African roots, he included an Impala, an African animal resembling a deer that he saw suited for his goals with the name.
Also, in an old interview, Parker stated that being in contact with something unfamiliar like a wild animal is something he was fascinated with. The fact that their paths have crossed, they were in contact, and then both species were off to do whatever it is that they needed to do. Talk about an extensive imagination.
