Eric Clapton’s Daughter Ruth Shows Support To Megan Markle Who Won Privacy Battle Against A British Tabloid

Legendary guitarist Eric Clapton‘s daughter Ruth Clapton shared a post on her official Twitter page stating that letters between a father and a daughter should stay private, thus showing her support for Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle who finally won a privacy case against the Mail on Sunday.

As many of you know, after the Mail on Sunday leaked a private handwritten letter of Meghan Markle in one of their articles which was sent to her father back in 2018, Meghan sued Associated Newspapers Ltd for breach of copyright, infringement of her privacy, and breaches of the Data Protection Act.

After two years, the Duchess of Sussex recently announced that she won the case against the Mail on Sunday by releasing a statement in which Meghan Markle stated that the world needs more reliable and high-quality news than what the Mail on Sunday has been publishing in addition to stressing the fact that it was a long waited win.

Here is what Markle said:

“After two long years of pursuing litigation, I am grateful to the courts for holding Associated Newspapers and The Mail on Sunday to account for their illegal and dehumanizing practices. These tactics (and those of their sister publications MailOnline and the Daily Mail) are not new; in fact, they’ve been going on for far too long without consequence. For these outlets, it’s a game. For me and so many others, it’s real life, real relationships, and very real sadness. The damage they have done and continue to do runs deep.

The world needs reliable, fact-checked, high-quality news. What The Mail on Sunday and its partner publications do is the opposite. We all lose when misinformation sells more than truth, when moral exploitation sells more than decency, and when companies create their business model to profit from people’s pain. But for today, with this comprehensive win on both privacy and copyright, we all won. We now know, and hope it creates a legal precedent, that you cannot take somebody’s privacy and exploit it in a privacy case, as the defendant has blatantly done over the past two years.

I share this victory with each of you – because we all deserve justice and truth, and we all deserve better.

I particularly want to thank my husband, mom, and legal team, and especially Jenny Afia for her unrelenting support throughout this process.”

Since Meghan Markle’s actions have always been controversial from the first day she joined the royal family, people have been sharing different opinions about the trial as well. Recently, Ruth Clapton also shared a post on her official Twitter page revealing that everybody should leave Meghan alone since a private family letter should have stayed private and it was a breach of privacy.

Here is what Ruth said:

“Can we all just leave Megan Markle alone man. The issue is that she can choose what she wants to share with the public and I’m sorry but private family letters between a father and a daughter shouldn’t be leaked into the papers! It’s very different from announcing a pregnancy!”
