Actor Elijah Wood recently revealed which Metallica song he can no longer tolerate listening to. He shared his experience in an interview with NME.
Wood explained how his young son’s obsession with a particular heavy metal track led to his current aversion to the song.
“The song I can no longer listen to is Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman,'” Wood said. “It’s specifically because of my son. He was about four when I introduced him to it and then it became the only song that he wanted to hear for a very long stretch of time.”
The Lord of the Rings star also commented on the song’s content and its appropriateness for young listeners.
“It’s actually not too inappropriate lyrically,” he continued. “It’s a little scary, but there isn’t anything too gnarly.”
Wood’s candid admission highlights how parental experiences can completely change one’s relationship with music, even with classic rock anthems.
This revelation comes at a busy time for the versatile actor, who continues to balance his entertainment career with his passion for music. Wood’s musical interests extend beyond just listening. He has been actively involved in the DJ scene through his collaboration with Zach Cowie in their project called Wooden Wisdom.
EDM reported that Wood announced 2026 vinyl DJ performances touring with his Wooden Wisdom bandmate, focusing on vinyl sets. This musical endeavor showcases Wood’s deep appreciation for various genres and his commitment to sharing music experiences with audiences in a different format than his acting work.
The song that caused Wood’s listening fatigue, “Enter Sandman,” remains one of Metallica’s most iconic tracks from their 1991 self-titled album, commonly known as “The Black Album.” The track has achieved massive cultural impact, exceeding 1.2 billion Spotify streams as of 2023. It has become a staple in sports events, films, and WWE entrances, demonstrating its enduring popularity across different entertainment mediums.
Meanwhile, Wood’s acting career continues to flourish with several high-profile projects on the horizon. ABS-CBN noted that he is cast in “Ready or Not 2,” a bloodier sequel directed by Tyler Januel, set for theatrical release on September 25, 2026, by Universal Pictures.
Additionally, Boomer Magazine indicated that Wood has expressed strong enthusiasm for potentially reprising his role as Frodo Baggins in Warner Bros.’ “The Hunt for Gollum,” directed by and starring Andy Serkis, now slated for December 2027 release. This potential return to Middle-earth would mark a significant reunion with the franchise that defined much of his career.
