In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Duff McKagan looked back on his time in Velvet Revolver.

He pointed out that Velvet Revolver formed at a critical time when many thought rock was dying in the early 2000s, and also said that the band would ‘never come back’:

“We had a great relationship in [Velvet Revolver] and with the audience. We took Velvet Revolver around the world, but there were things in the band that we just couldn’t get around. I don’t dwell on that stuff – I remember those days fondly – but I don’t think we’ll ever come back together with Scott gone.”

Slash Doesn’t Want Velvet Revolver Back

Velvet Revolver got back together for a few shows in 2010 and 2012, but they didn’t talk about coming back full-time. Similar to the bassist, Slash also never wanted the band to come back.

The guitarist mentioned that after Scott Weiland left the band, they considered finding a new singer:

“After Scott was let go from Velvet Revolver, we considered the idea of finding a new singer and carrying on. Matt [Sorum] and Duff auditioned a few singers, and we wrote some songs. But for me, once it was over with Scott, it was over for the band.”

However, when Weiland left the band, it was challenging because the band couldn’t see anyone else replacing him:

“It was a tough band to be in. We went through a lot, and Scott was challenging. I couldn’t really see anyone stepping in to replace him. We went through the motions for a bit, but nothing came of it. So, I moved on. There’s no interest in reviving it.”

Weiland was fired from Velvet Revolver in 2008 because of his ‘increasingly erratic’ behaviors. The rockers came back together in 2012 for a final show. Three years after the show, the frontman passed away.
