In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Dua Lipa delved into her upcoming album, acknowledging the impact of Britpop icons like Oasis and Blur, as well as ’90s rock and electronic artists such as Moby and Gorillaz.
However, Lipa highlighted that certain acts from the Brit-pop era, including Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn, displayed ‘obnoxious’ behavior, particularly towards female pop acts. Clarifying that she had never met them before, she said:
“I haven’t had any encounters with them, actually. Sometimes you have to separate the art from the person… It’s more like the music element, the aspect of it that I’m really connected to. The way that [some Brit-pop artists] acted, the things that they’ve done, they’re obnoxious for sure. That’s their whole thing.”
Reflecting on that era, Dua Lipa voiced concerns about the toxicity in the expectations imposed on artists:
“There’s so much toxicity in the way people wanted their artists or their musicians. If they weren’t like that, they would’ve been seen as boring, and I think that’s such a bad way to see things.”
Noel Gallagher’s Criticism Of Pop Musicians

The list of Gallagher criticizing female pop artists goes a long way.
In 2020, Noel Gallagher criticized America for the sexualization of female artists, singling out Miley Cyrus for her performance of the song Midnight Sky at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. He said:
“That god awful woman Miley Cyrus was on and she was doing some f*cking sh*t and even my nine-year-old said, ‘Why is the cameraman just filming her legs?'”
Moving to 2022, Albarn made a claim about Taylor Swift’s songwriting. He asserted that Swift doesn’t personally write her own songs and criticized her co-writing approach.
This comment quickly caught Swift’s eye, who replied with a comment such as:
“I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write all of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and so damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f*cked up to try and discredit my writing. Wow.”
The list goes on. Asked if he was a listener of Adele’s songs during a podcast appearance, he compared her songs to Cilla Black and replied:
“F*ck off, f*cking hell. Name one? They’re f*cking sh*t. It’s f*cking awful. It’s f*cking Cilla Black. I find it and that whole thing offensive.”
Gallagher has not commented on Dua Lipa and her music yet.
