Dolly Parton On Starting A ‘Rock Star’ Controversy

Pretty sure there’s hardly anyone left who hasn’t heard of Dolly Parton’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, especially after the controversy surrounding her statements. During her appearance on Jimmy Fallon, the Queen of Country shared that she is preparing a rock album to show her ‘rock star side’ and respond to all the controversy about her not deserving the honor.

I’m a rock star now – that’s what they say!” Parton laughingly exclaimed and explained her stance when they approached her about wanting to put her in the Hall of Fame. “That was such an honor. You know, I’m making an album, too, because I have to live up to all that hype. Honestly, I was sincere – I didn’t mean to start any controversy, but when they said they wanted to put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I always thought that was for people who spent their whole life working to be in rock ‘n’ roll.”

She added, “You don’t see Led Zeppelin in the Country Music Hall of Fame, although they could! [But] I found out it was more than that. So, when I realized what it was, I said if they put me in any way, I would certainly accept it gracefully. Which I did; I even wrote a song about it to tell the story about it.”

Parton also shared that she was very honored and proud and revealed before moving on to her rock album to be released next fall. She noted, “I’d always thought I might want to do a rock record because my husband is a rock ‘n’ roll freak. I thought, ‘If I’m ever going to do it, now’s the time. It will come out next fall, and you know what I’m calling it: ‘Rock Star.’ I will have some cameo people; we’re going to have some great iconic songs like ‘Purple Rain,’ ‘(Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,’ ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ and ‘Free Bird.’”

Although most people had strong opinions about Parton being inducted, she explained that she had no intention of making people upset by calling herself a rock star. After everything went down, she was in the studio to record her ‘Rock Star’ album, which will include songs by Prince, the Rolling Stones, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, along with some original material. Get ready for next fall because we’ll be in for a ride!
