David Draiman praised Steven Tyler’s vocal performance during Aerosmith’s recent comeback shows at the Hollywood Bowl, posting on X.
The Disturbed frontman commented on Tyler’s singing after the legendary Aerosmith vocalist returned to perform following a break caused by vocal issues. The Hollywood Bowl shows featured guest appearances from Guns N’ Roses, The Black Crowes, Billy Idol, Tom Morello, Sammy Hagar and others.
“It just needs to be said… Steven Tyler is one of the best to ever do it. Period,” Draiman wrote.
He continued with enthusiasm about what he had seen from the shows. “Blown away by these Hollywood Bowl clips I’ve seen. Bravo my brother. The Pheonix rises from the ashes…AGAIN.”
Draiman’s comments came as Aerosmith returned to performing after their hiatus due to Tyler’s vocal problems.
Steven Tyler sustained vocal cord damage at a September 2023 concert, which included a fractured larynx that required ongoing care. The injury occurred after just three shows of the band’s farewell tour. In August 2024, the group revealed that they had officially retired from touring because Tyler’s recovery from his vocal injury was not possible.
More than three years since their last full concert, Aerosmith returned to the stage for a comeback performance at the Hollywood Bowl on October 29, 2026. The show marked drummer Joey Kramer’s first appearance with the group since February 2020. Dave Grohl appeared behind the drums for Aerosmith’s first five songs, and performances came from Billy Idol, Guns N’ Roses, the Black Crowes, Heart, Sammy Hagar and Eric Church, while Johnny Depp made a surprise appearance on guitar for one song. A second concert was set for November 1, 2026.
Since the band halted its farewell tour, Tyler performed at a few benefit shows and awards ceremonies, signaling his gradual recovery. The Hollywood Bowl shows marked a dramatic reversal from the band’s retirement announcement less than two years earlier.
