Sepultura frontman Derrick Green recently discussed his plans following the band’s ongoing farewell tour. He revealed that he is already working on forming a new musical project. His comments were shared in an interview with Heavy Matters.

Green spoke about the various creative and personal pursuits he plans to continue after Sepultura’s conclusion. He emphasized his commitment to music and his excitement about new collaborations.

“There’s so many possibilities, endless possibilities. I’ve always been into photography, and I will continue to do that. I’ve been really into fitness and health and this plant-based world, and I’ll continue doing that,” Green said.

The frontman then addressed his musical future specifically. He confirmed active efforts to establish a new band.

“And I will continue doing music. I definitely would love to do another band. And I’m putting that together as we speak. Trying to align with certain people, it’s like starting from scratch — well, not necessarily from scratch, but it’s definitely a challenge to form that connection with people again — different people,” he continued.

Green reflected on his long tenure with Sepultura and the transition to working with new musicians.

“After being with a band for so long — I’ve been especially with [Sepultura guitarist] Andreas [Kisser] and [Sepultura bassist] Paulo [Xisto Pinto Jr.] for so many years, since like 1998 — so it’s interesting to think back and then now be where we’re at, where it’s just, like, ‘Okay, I’ll try to find other people to jam with.’ It’s exciting, I have to say,” he added.

Green has been Sepultura’s vocalist since 1997. The band is currently conducting their farewell tour after decades of influential metal music.

Green’s new musical direction appears to be taking shape with specific artistic goals in mind. Metal Anarchy reported that he aims to blend elements from his Sepultura experience with his hardcore roots. He plans to explore heavier grooves and avoid a direct repeat of the band’s sound.

The farewell tour itself has become a significant undertaking for the Brazilian metal legends. Blabbermouth noted that Sepultura kicked off their farewell tour on March 1, 2024, at Arena Hall in São Paulo, Brazil. The band is now recording 40 songs across 40 cities for a live album compilation of their final energetic performances.

This ambitious documentation project reflects the band’s desire to capture the essence of their final chapter. The live album will serve as a comprehensive farewell gift to fans who have supported Sepultura throughout their influential career in the metal scene.

Meanwhile, Green’s bandmate Andreas Kisser has also been exploring post-Sepultura possibilities. Metal Injection mentioned that in a recent interview with Metal Hammer, both Kisser and Green discussed their various post-band plans. This indicates that multiple creative projects may emerge from the dissolution of Sepultura.

The transition marks the end of an era for one of Brazil’s most internationally successful metal bands. It simultaneously opens new creative chapters for its members. Green’s commitment to forming a new band demonstrates his continued passion for music and his readiness to explore fresh artistic territories beyond his nearly three-decade tenure with Sepultura.
