Dee Snider recently addressed concerns about his vocal abilities following the announcement of a Twisted Sister reunion. He shared candid insights on Steve and Rik’s POTcast.

The legendary frontman explained that the reunion was his own initiative. A health scare prompted him to reconsider how he wanted to spend his remaining years. At 70 years old, Snider decided to reach out to his bandmates to explore the possibility of getting back together.

“Why am I doing a reunion with Twisted Sister? I’ll say that it was my idea. The guys couldn’t even believe I was making the call,” Snider said. “I had a little bit of a health scare. It was okay, but it was enough to make me say, ‘Wow, that was weird.’ And I’m 70 years old, and I’m like, ‘Do I wanna go out like that, go silently, or do I wanna go kicking and screaming?’ And I picked up the phone and I called up John and Eddie and said, ‘What do you think about getting together?'”

Snider has experienced some vocal changes, particularly in his upper range. He emphasized that while his voice remains powerful, he has noticed a difference in his performance capacity over extended periods.

“I know that I’ve lost a note. My voice is powerful as fuck. But I’m missing my top notes, and I hate that,” he said. “I was always aching back in the day, but it’s a different kind of aching. And I don’t like that either. For four songs, I’m great. But 90 minutes, 75 minutes, 60 minutes—that’s a lot.”

Snider has relocated to North Carolina to prepare for the reunion. He plans to begin weekly rehearsals with a local band to build stamina and refine the setlist.

The Twisted Sister reunion marks a significant milestone for the band. Ultimate Classic Rock reports that the group is planning a 50th-anniversary tour in 2026. This comes nearly a decade after their farewell “40 And Fuck It!” tour in 2016. The reunion represents a major shift in Snider’s perspective, particularly given his previous stance on the band’s future.

Blabbermouth reported that Snider’s health scare served as a catalyst for re-evaluating his life priorities and mortality. The experience prompted him to reconsider what he wanted to accomplish in his remaining years. This ultimately led to his decision to contact his bandmates about a potential reunion. Snider turned 70 in 2025, a moment that intensified his reflection on legacy and performance.

The frontman has been characteristically candid about the physical demands of returning to touring at his age. Blabbermouth noted that Snider described himself as “brave or stupid” for taking on the reunion. This indicates his awareness of the challenges that lie ahead. Despite these concerns, his motivation remains clear: he wanted to experience the thrill of performing with Twisted Sister one last time rather than let financial incentives drive the decision.

The reunion will feature classic members Dee Snider, Eddie Ojeda, and Jay Jay French. Metal Injection revealed that bassist Mark Mendoza will not be part of the reunion due to irreconcilable differences. Russ Pzütto will step in to fill the role. This lineup adjustment represents one of the few changes to the classic Twisted Sister formation as the band prepares to celebrate five decades since Snider joined the group.
