Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider recently addressed his absence from Black Sabbath’s farewell concert “Back to the Beginning.” He responded to fan concerns in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter).

A fan had questioned what appeared to be an oversight regarding Snider’s exclusion from the tribute event. The fan wrote: “Feels like a huge oversight that you weren’t at the Back to the Beginning concert a couple of weeks ago Dee.”

Snider responded with his perspective on watching the concert from home and his reaction to the performances.

“I was watching from home and loving it!” Snider said. “But after hearing one of the ‘all star’ singers I did let Tom Morello know that he should have called me! Yikes! Not naming names…”

The comment suggests Snider felt he could have contributed to the tribute concert after observing some of the guest performances during the Black Sabbath farewell event.

Snider’s reaction comes in the context of what was billed as a historic farewell event for one of heavy metal’s most influential bands. Ultimate Classic Rock reported that the “Back to the Beginning” concert took place on July 5, 2025. The event featured an all-star roster of guest musicians including Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, Steven Tyler, and Sammy Hagar. Each artist delivered their own Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne covers throughout the event.

The night showcased a diverse range of artists paying tribute to Black Sabbath’s legacy. Ultimate Classic Rock detailed that the performances included Mastodon performing “Supernaut,” Rival Sons tackling “Electric Funeral,” Anthrax playing “Into the Void,” and Halestorm covering Osbourne’s “Perry Mason.” These performances highlighted the breadth of artists who participated in the tribute.

This wasn’t Black Sabbath’s first official farewell in North America. House of Hair Online noted that the band held their first official farewell concert in North America on November 14, 2016, at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. The show drew about 13,000 fans.

There’s an interesting connection between Snider’s band and Black Sabbath’s farewell timeline. 101.9 The Rock revealed that Twisted Sister played what was billed as their final-ever show just two nights before Black Sabbath’s 2016 San Antonio farewell concert. This marked a significant moment for hard rock fans in the same week when two legendary bands were saying goodbye to touring.
