David Gilmour’s Subtle Message To Roger Waters With His New Solo Album

David Gilmour is releasing a new album, and it’s coming out on his bandmate Roger Waters’ birthday. But what does it exactly mean?

A few users on Reddit made some guesses about the upcoming record, ‘Luck And Strange.’ While some think it might be a diss to him, some say it’s actually a birthday gift. A user said:

“Whether the release date was done deliberately the bright side is we will get more Waters’ self immolations.”

When a user said it was probably a date record company put rather than an intentional move, another user replied with:

“I’m sure he knows and is perhaps amused by it.”

Another added saying it’s a great birthday gift:

“Can’t wait, and a great birthday gift.”

Gilmour Is Working With His Wife

In addition to the newest detail about his album, Gilmour once again worked with his wife Polly Samson on his new album.

Samson continues her collaboration with Gilmour in ‘Luck and Strange,’ just like she has for years. However, it’s widely known that Waters has been uncomfortable about her involvement in past Pink Floyd albums. In a 2021 Rolling Stone interview, Samson recounted how Rogers teased Gilmour for getting assistance from his wife:

“I don’t hide anymore. The first time I wrote lyrics, I got a pretty bad response from David’s former lyricist which really kind of stung at the time. It shouldn’t have, but I didn’t know anything about these things at the time. When I first wrote lyrics on ‘The Division Bell,’ I didn’t want my name on it because we just lived in a time where things were really sexist.”

Gilmour’s work with his wife might sign that the album is a diss. However, there are no comments about the release date of the album yet.
