The Pink Floyd icon David Gilmour‘s wife, Polly Samson, recently shared an Instagram post, including a black and white photograph of Gilmour and Dire Strait’s Mark Knopfler. Following that, the fans crowded under the post and started speculating about whether a collaboration between the two was on the way.
It is known from their previous statements that both Gilmour and Knopfler enjoyed each other’s music. Back in 1985, Gilmour had praised Knopfler’s guitar playing style to Guitar Classics by saying he inspired him with his lovely and refreshing sound. In a 2002 interview with French Guitarist, Knopfler had also said that he didn’t have a chance to record with Gilmour, but their styles were not that different.
In his post, Samson shared a photo of the two, seemingly in a studio, where Gilmour is seen holding his guitar. She also wrote a few praising words about both of them. The fans immediately began speculating about a possible collaboration between the two notable musicians.
One of the users wrote that it was probably an old picture because Gilmour had already sold his black Stratocaster. However, another user replied by saying that it was the reissued model rather than the original one, pointing out that the photo was new. Another user reacted by writing that their touring together would be a dream-come-true moment for him.
Polly Samson’s Instagram post read:
“Random man and local hero.”
A user’s comment:
“Sadly, it’s probably an old picture; David auctioned his black strat.”
Another replied:
“No, that’s not the original; that is a reissue model.”
One of the other comments:
“A Gilmour Knopfler tour would sell out any date, and it’s a once-in-a-lifetime dream!“
David Gilmour has been currently recording music at the British Grove Studios for a charity project of the Teenage Cancer Trust. The studio is owned by Mark Knopfler, so considering that, maybe it is not so much a surprise to see them together. It is yet unknown if we will hear about a possible collaboration between the two musicians.
