Rock and Roll Hall of Famer David Crosby maintained a consistent presence in the life of his biological daughter, Bailey Cypheridge, according to her recent interview with People. Crosby was a supportive figure in Bailey’s life despite the nontraditional nature of their connection.
Melissa Etheridge and Julie Cypher chose David Crosby to be the biological father when they decided to start a family. Crosby’s donated sperm was utilized for both Beckett and his older sister Bailey. Throughout the years, the late musician remained involved in Bailey’s life, attending her events and sharing moments with her.
In her interview, Bailey spoke fondly of Crosby, mentioning that he had always been a ‘cool presence’ in her life, even though they did not share the typical parent-child relationship. Bailey appreciated growing up knowing David Crosby’s identity and his connection to her family. She also enjoyed attending his concerts and spending time with him on tour.
She recalled an anecdote about the late musician’s response when she told him she had been playing guitar. According to her, he would jokingly knock her fingers against the table to check if she had been practicing enough, as a true guitar player’s fingers would make a distinct sound.
Recalling her relationship with Crosby, Bailey said:
“He was always a really cool presence in my life, even if we never meant to have that kind of parent-child relationship. He was friends with my parents, he was their donor for me. I thought it was cool growing up, knowing who he was.”
She added:
“I have always enjoyed going to see him on tour. I remember one thing that he would always do, I would tell him, ‘Oh, I’ve been playing guitar,’ and he’d take your fingers and [knock them against the table], like, ‘No, you haven’t played enough.’ Because he said if you were really a guitar player, you could knock your fingers on the table, and it makes a noise.”
So, judging from Bailey’s words, despite not being in a conventional parental role, David Crosby remained an active and engaged figure in her life, creating a lasting bond between them. Elsewhere in the interview, she also said that she was touched by the CSNY icon’s death and missed him.
