During a recent conversation with WVMusic’s Andrew Daly, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine revealed his wish regarding Metallica frontman James Hetfield and reflected on the duo’s relationship.
It can be said that bands need to achieve harmony between the bandmates to achieve longevity and success. Of course, there can be conflicts between members or even possible resentments. Yet, if they can make with one another at the end of the day, their career and success will continue. However, this wasn’t the case for former Metallica guitarist Dave Mustaine.
Since the story of Mustaine’s departure is quite famous, the disputes he had with his then bandmate James Hetfield are also widely known. In the past, the duo had a rocky relationship, and it’s safe to say they weren’t on the same page. Yet, during a recent chat the Megadeth frontman had, Mustaine signaled that he was looking to reconcile.
The frontman disclosed that he has been ‘secretly‘ wanting to collaborate with James Hetfield again, and he wishes to write with the Metallica frontman. Dave said he believes that the audience would love it if the duo worked together. The musician added that the possibility of this collaboration was not that low.
Megadeth frontman revealed his ‘secret wish’ regarding James Hetfield:
“I have been secretly hoping there’d be a day where James and I can write together again. I think the world really does want us to do that, and I think there is a pretty good possibility of it happening down the line.”
Mustaine continued to address the possibility by stating that he believed that one day, Hetfield would agree to collaborate. The musician said that the dream of reuniting with his former bandmate is one of the plans that have helped him push forward. Dave also added that this sort of project would be both to Megadeth’s and Metallica’s benefit.
The musician stated the following:
“I do think that it’s possible that one day James is going to come around and that he and I are going to be able to do something together again. I guess that’s one of the things that has always kept me pushing forward. I think it’d be good for Megadeth, and it could be great for Metallica too.”
It seems like the Megadeth frontman is quite eager to resolve their past disputes with James Hetfield. The possibility of the two talented musicians reuniting to work on a new project is surely exciting for both bands’ fans. Since Dave Mustaine expressed his enthusiasm for a possible collaboration, the only thing left to do is to wait for James Hetfield to respond.
