Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl recently shared advice for his daughter Violet about touring, speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Grohl explained how his daughter has been performing on the road at small venues and struggling with the physical demands of touring. When she called him worried about her voice becoming raspy before a show, he offered reassurance based on his own stage experience.
“And now, you know, she’s out on the road and she’s doing the thing,” Grohl told Jimmy Kimmel. “She’s playing the pubs and she’s playing the clubs, and she’s losing sleep and she’s losing her voice. I call her on the road. I FaceTime her almost every day and I say like, ‘How’s it going?’ She’s be like, ‘Oh, my throat’s kind of scratchy. It kind of hurts.’ And I’m like, ‘It’s fine, man. Like, go in the shower. Stand in there for half an hour. Take an Advil. Drink some tea.'”
Grohl described how Violet continued to worry despite his practical suggestions. “And she freak out. But then, you know, the response is like, ‘Dad, I I don’t know if I can do it.’ I’m like, ‘Violet, they don’t care if your voice is raspy. just get up there and do it. And she’ll go, ‘They’re gonna notice.’ And I go, ‘They’re not gonna notice. I get up on stage every night and I sound like Lemy from Motorhead. They’re not gonna notice.'”
He added that Violet was quick to point out the difference between their performances. “And she goes, ‘Yeah, but you scream. I sing [laughter] and she’s not wrong. I mean, you’ll hear it, man. She’s like, she’s the real deal.'”
Grohl made these comments during a recent appearance where he discussed his daughter’s touring experience.
Violet launched her solo career with her debut album “Be Sweet to Me” on May 29, 2026. The album was produced by Justin Raisen and marked the start of her first headlining tour. Grohl said he had no involvement in making the album, leaving the project entirely to his daughter.
Violet’s tour started at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn on June 4, 2026, with stops in Philadelphia and Washington D.C. as well as festival appearances and supporting dates. After strong demand, she added a second London show and confirmed a venue upgrade for her Manchester date along with a new show in Brighton. The tour continued through the United States, Canada, the UK and Europe into 2026.
Before launching her solo career, Violet spent years performing alongside her father. She grew up coming on the road with the Foo Fighters and began singing backup for the band at age 12. Her debut with the band came during their Concrete and Gold tour in front of stadium audiences across North America. She also appeared with Foo Fighters at the 2023 Glastonbury Festival, harmonizing with her father on stage.
