Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl recently revealed that his daughter Violet secured her first record deal with Republic Records entirely on her own, without any assistance from her famous father, in an interview shared on Radio X.

The rock legend expressed his pride and surprise at his 19-year-old daughter’s independent approach to launching her music career.

“So Violet, my daughter, she’s 19, about to turn 20, she made this album with a producer named Justin Raisen, and she did it on her own,” Grohl said. “She met the producer, and they would go to the studio every day and she would send me songs when she was finished. But I had absolutely nothing to do with this record at all.”

Grohl described how he learned about the record deal in a casual family setting.

“I had no idea. I knew she was looking to sign a record deal, and she was like, ‘Hey Dad, can I come over for dinner tonight?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, sure. What do you want me to make?’ And she came over and told me, like, ‘I signed my record deal today,'” he continued.

The musician expressed his amazement at his daughter’s independence and the quality of her work.

“I’m just like, ‘Oh my God!’ So, I’m totally uninvolved. I’m the dad who wants to be there and know everything. And she’s just totally doing her own thing. It’s amazing,” Grohl said. “The way that they made that record and the energy of it, I was like, ‘Oh, man. I’ve just been inspired by my daughter’s debut album.’ It’s cool.”

Violet’s musical journey has been building momentum over the past few years. Several notable collaborations and releases led up to this milestone achievement.

Wikipedia reported that Violet Maye Grohl was born on April 15, 2006, making her the eldest daughter of the Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer. Her musical talents have been evident from an early age. She has gradually stepped into the spotlight on her own terms.

Louder Sound noted that Violet has prior experience including guest vocals on Foo Fighters’ 2023 track “Show Me How” from their album But Here We Are and a memorable 2021 duet with her father on X’s “Nausea.” These collaborations showcased her vocal abilities and helped establish her presence in the music scene.

The impact of Violet’s work has extended beyond her own career, influencing her father’s creative process. 98 KUPD revealed that her work even inspired Dave Grohl’s new Foo Fighters album Your Favorite Toy, which is set for release on April 24, 2026.

Louder Sound also confirmed that Violet recently released her debut singles “THUM” and “Applefish” in 2026, marking her official entry into the music industry as a solo artist. These releases have demonstrated her unique sound and artistic vision, separate from her father’s legendary rock legacy.
