Lacuna Coil’s Cristina Scabbia recently shared how her rise to fame brought along a wave of stalkers. In a new interview with Metal Hammer, the singer discussed the unwanted attention she received from fans who crossed the line, sending threatening and unsettling images, eventually requiring an FBI involvement.

Scabbia opened up about one instance when she was handed a wedding ring by a fan, who claimed her voice had helped him escape a toxic relationship. She then reflected, “That was peculiar, but I did have actual stalkers that were potentially dangerous and would follow me around. I remember them sending me weird pictures of me covered in blood or sending me pictures of a foetus.”

“I reported it, and for one complete tour I had an FBI agent in every town checking on me,” she continued. “It was not only disturbing, it was also boring for me because I had to be confined on a tour bus every day.”

Despite the darker side of her fame, Scabbia did enjoy certain aspects of her career. She admitted that being named in magazines as one of the ‘hottest women in metal’ felt like a positive recognition, even though such lists are now criticized for being sexist.

“I don’t see the negativity [in those lists] at all,” the singer commented. “I know a lot of people are against this because they see it as sexism, but I thought it was just a way to say ‘beautiful’. I didn’t see it as something that objectified me.”

Lacuna Coil is gearing up for the release of their 10th studio album, ‘Sleepless Empire,’ due out on February 14. The band will soon hit the road in support of the album, with their first concert scheduled for March 12 in Dyn, Argentina.
