Molly Shannon recently shared how Hole frontwoman Courtney Love decided to hunt her down within minutes after her impression of the rocker while appearing on The Tonight Show.
When it comes to confronting others, it might be safe to say that Love never holds back; so when SNL featured a sketch where Shannon gave her best impression of the rocker while hosting the problematic imaginary talk show, the ‘Courtney Love Show,’ the Hole frontwoman had the great idea to show up at the studios and confront the comedian.
The actress heard about Courtney’s arrival moments after she was off the stage, and it was a bit nerve-breaking to realize that a possibly-very-pissed-off rocker was looking around all over the place for her while Molly was still in her stage dress and makeup, looking like Love’s identical twin.
So, the comedian started thinking she would be punched that night; luckily, Courtney had no problems with the sketch and held nothing against Molly as she’d just wanted to meet and have a cigarette with the SNL actress, a typical bonding session for Love. The rest of the evening was rather friendly as the pair chatted for a while, and Molly became a fan.
Shannon’s words on how Love tracked her down after her impression and confronted her in the best way possible:
“The real Courtney Love showed up live, and she was mad. She was like, ‘Where’s Molly?’ She was going around the studio hunting me down, ready to maybe punch me or something. I was like, ‘I’m scared.’ Maybe not punching, but definitely looking for me.
[When the pair came face to face] She smelled like witchy oils, and she was tall, and she was tough. She gave me a cigarette, and then we smoked together. I told her why it’s such a compliment, you know, when somebody does an impression of you, that’s, like, cool. She was really nice, we bonded. I’m a big fan of hers. She’s Courtney Love.”
So, it might be surely nerve-wracking to have someone looking all over the place for you right after you’ve made fun of them, but Courtney had nothing personal against Shannon and just wanted to have a nice chat to get to know her better. The pair, luckily, got along pretty well, and Molly realized maybe, Love wasn’t that intimidating.
