Courtney Love has clarified her recent social media activity regarding a potential Hole reunion. She addressed fan speculation in a new statement shared on Instagram.

Love posted a video featuring Melissa Auf der Maur dancing in slow motion to Hole’s 1999 hit “Malibu.” Many fans interpreted this as a teaser for a Hole reunion. The clarification came after this social media activity.

“Not a reunion baby,” Love said. “Me and Melissa touring new songs.”

This statement directly contradicts the earlier speculation that arose from Love’s previous Instagram caption. She had asked: “So do we tell the kids about the tour, Melissa Auf der Maur?” Auf der Maur responded in the comments: “it starts with eternal love ….”

Love and Auf der Maur are planning to tour together with new material instead of reuniting the iconic grunge band Hole. This marks a different direction for the two musicians’ collaboration.

The recent social media activity has reignited interest in the history between these two musicians and their significant contribution to the grunge era. Their partnership represents one of the most notable periods in Hole’s evolution as a band.

Metal Wani reported that Melissa Auf der Maur played bass in Hole during one of the band’s most prominent eras. She joined the group in the mid-1990s and contributed to the band’s acclaimed work. She served as the band’s bassist from 1994 to 1999, stepping in after the tragic death of original bassist Kristen Pfaff. She became an integral part of Hole’s Celebrity Skin era.

The two musicians have maintained their connection over the years. Stereogum noted that Love and Auf der Maur last performed together in 2018. They delivered Hole songs during a Love tribute event at Basilica Hudson, the upstate venue that Auf der Maur co-founded. This performance marked a rare public collaboration between the former bandmates.

Their recent studio reunion in 2024 had already sparked rumors among fans about a potential Hole comeback. Blunt Magazine confirmed that while Hole has not formally reunited in years, Love and Auf der Maur have crossed paths several times recently. This kept the possibility of collaboration alive in fans’ minds.

The announcement of new material and touring plans represents a fresh chapter for both artists. They continue to evolve their musical partnership beyond the confines of their grunge band origins.
