Slipknot is a band with a massive catalog of songs, and with such an extensive repertoire, it’s only natural that some tunes won’t make it to the live stage. In a recent interview on the All Things Music podcast, frontman Corey Taylor opened up about one particular song he wishes they could perform live, but hasn’t had the chance to do so yet.
Since their first live performances in 1997, Slipknot has garnered a great number of hits that fans eagerly await during concerts. However, with so many tracks under their belt, it’s a challenge for them to decide which ones to include in their setlists. Interestingly, there are around forty songs that have never been performed live by the band.
Speaking to All Things Music podcast, Taylor revealed his desire to play ‘Gematria (The Killing Name)‘ from their 2008 album, ‘All Hope Is Gone.’ Unfortunately, certain obstacles prevent the band from performing this song live, much to Taylor’s disappointment. He even expressed his wish to kick off a show with this powerful track.
Here is what Corey Taylor said about ‘Gematria (The Killing Name)’:
“There are certain odiums around the way that song was created and recorded, which is why some of the guys in the band are like, ‘f*ck that, we’ll never play it.’ [The reason] isn’t even sentimental. It’s resentment. But for me, man, it’s such a f*cking burner that I just love that song. But it’ll never happen.“
Despite the current situation, fans can only hope that one day, Slipknot will find a way to bring ‘Gematria (The Killing Name)’ to life on stage. Besides, it’s not the only song from ‘All Hope Is Gone’ that wasn’t played on stage — apart from the title track, ‘Sulfur,’ ‘Psychosocial,’ ‘Dead Memories,’ and ‘Snuff,’ there are seven songs waiting to be played during Slipknot shows.
