Corey Taylor Says His New Slipknot Mask Is So Scary That His Wife Alicia Can’t Even Look At It
In the new episode of Steve‑O’s Wild Ride! podcast, Slipknot lead vocalist and songwriter, Corey Taylor gave the details about his new mask for the upcoming album and the band’s concept of changing the mask on every album cycle.
Slipknot’s masks which were created first and designed by Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan have become a worldwide phenomenon since their first performance. Also, the band kept changing their masks in each album cycle and they were both admired and found scary by the fans.
As you remember, Slipknot’s sixth studio album ‘We Are Not Your Kind’ was released on August 9, 2019. Not only the album itself but also their newly designed masks were liked a lot and got positive critics. While Slipknot fans were waiting for the next album, the band’s percussionist Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan recently confirmed that the band had been writing new material in lockdown.
Along with the details of the upcoming album, The fans are wondering about the design of the band members’ masks for the new album. In the interview, Corey Taylor said that changing the mask was the band’s key concept and he appreciated Crahan’s talent in creating the masks. He also gave a clue about his new mask telling that his mask was so scary that even his wife couldn’t look at it without feeling bothered.
Here’s what he said:
“Sometimes we have a vision in our head – Clown is really good at it because he’s an artist, so he’ll go somewhere gnarly and be like, ‘Okay, I’ve got this image…’ and then we’ll have outside people create it. But then there are some times where you’re just like, ‘I don’t have a real vision, but I have an idea,’ and you talk through it with a visual arts guy or a visual effects guy, and they will create it for you. And then you’ll look at it and go, ‘I like this, change this, blah blah blah.’ And you whittle it down until you get to something that’s really rad.”
He went on:
“My new mask is gonna fucking scare kids! It’s so gnarly, dude. It’s really uncomfortable; it freaked my wife out. She won’t look at it – and she loves crazy shit like that. She’s just like, ‘That’s really bothering me, you need to put that picture away!’”
