Guitarist Zach Throne recently praised Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor’s exceptional vocal range and versatility. He shared insights from their studio collaborations on the Beer Rum and Rock N’ Roll Podcast.

Throne has worked extensively with Taylor on two records. He highlighted the vocalist’s remarkable ability to seamlessly transition between different singing styles.

“He’s an extremely, I was gonna say underrated, but if you’re a fan of his, you just know that he’s not underrated,” Throne said. “I think Corey can sing anything, to be honest.”

The producer emphasized Taylor’s broad musical capabilities and passion for diverse genres.

“I’ve said this in other interviews, like if he wanted to do a Broadway musical, he could do it,” Throne continued. “He loves Broadway, I’m not outing him. You’re not supposed to like Broadway sh*t. But he loves music. He has this voice that not many people can do things with their voice like he can do things.”

Throne described witnessing Taylor’s vocal transformations firsthand during their studio sessions.

“Just working in the studio with him, we made two records, and I would watch him do his vocals,” he explained. “He could do those Slipknot vocals and then snap into like Tom Jones and then snap back right into Slipknot. I mean he tries on voices like hats or like guitars. There’s not that many singers in the world who could do that.”

Throne’s observations align with what vocal experts and music critics have long recognized about Taylor’s extraordinary abilities. The Slipknot frontman’s technical prowess extends far beyond what most listeners experience in his mainstream work.

WRAT reported that Taylor possesses one of the broadest vocal ranges in popular music, reportedly spanning six octaves. This places him as having the second-highest vocal range of any known singer in popular music, surpassed only by Mike Patton.

This extraordinary range enables Taylor to shift seamlessly between vastly different vocal styles within the same performance. Digital Noise Magazine highlighted his ability to transition from guttural death metal screams in songs like “Scissors” and “Iowa” to melodic ballads such as “Snuff” and “Dead Memories.”

Taylor’s versatility showcases his rare ability to masterfully switch between harsh and clean vocals. This is a skill that few vocalists in any genre can execute with such precision. His technical command allows him to explore multiple musical territories while maintaining the emotional intensity that has made him one of metal’s most recognizable voices.

The vocalist’s range and adaptability have made him a sought-after collaborator across different musical projects. These include his primary role in Slipknot, his work with Stone Sour, and various guest appearances throughout his career.
