Suicide Silence guitarist Chris Garza recently announced his temporary departure from the band. He shared the news on Instagram. Garza explained that he has stepped back from recent band performances to take time for personal reflection.
In his statement, Garza addressed his absence from recent shows. He clarified the reasons behind his decision to take a break from the band he has been part of for over two decades.
“What’s up everyone? As some of you have noticed, I’ve missed the last couple Suicide Silence shows. It’s because I’m on a hiatus from the band,” Garza said. “Sui has been on my brain every day since 2002 with no break. Everything is fine. I just need to press the reset button so I can make the right decisions in the near future. As the Terminator said. I’ll be back.”
Garza’s announcement marks a significant moment for the deathcore pioneers. The guitarist takes a step back after more than two decades of continuous involvement with the project he helped establish.
Metal Injection reported that Garza clarified his hiatus is specifically from live shows. He remains a member of the band overall. This distinction is important, as it suggests his break is focused on performance commitments rather than a complete departure from Suicide Silence’s creative endeavors.
Loaded Radio noted that the co-founder has stepped away after 23 years with Suicide Silence. He described the break as necessary for personal reasons. Garza’s decision comes as he seeks to recharge and reassess his direction within the band and his career moving forward.
Lambgoat confirmed that as of 2025, this hiatus is ongoing but limited to live performance participation. It does not represent a departure from the band entirely. This clarification underscores that Garza’s absence from the stage does not signal an end to his involvement with Suicide Silence’s studio work or future creative projects.
The guitarist’s decision to take time away reflects the toll that nearly a quarter-century of constant touring and recording can have on an artist. By pressing pause on live performances, Garza aims to return to the band refreshed and with renewed clarity about his artistic path forward.
