Draven Bennington, the transgender child of late Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, has released her first song, “Follow Your Heart.” Fans say it has an “old-school hip-hop” sound. She announced the release in a post on Instagram.
In the post, Draven said the song is available to download on her website. She also explained the message behind it.
“OUT NOW! Go download my song ‘Follow Your Heart’ on my website,” Draven said. “Link in bio!”
She then described who the song is meant for.
“I made this song for those who really need it,” she said. “If you’re ever at a point where you are second guessing yourself, stop and listen to this song! It’s all about being yourself unapologetically, going after your dreams and saying F the haters! Love you all!”
Fans responded in the comments. One Chester fan wrote, “I know your dad is beyond proud of you!!!! Keep shining.”
Another fan commented, “Beautiful voice, beautiful text. Your dad is definitely proud of you. I bet he vibes to it in heaven and has a great time.”
A third fan said, “Love the old school hip hop vibe!”
The release comes as Draven continues to build a music career in the shadow of a famous father. Her sound has deep roots in his work.
Linkin Park’s Collision Course helped shape her musical style. The band’s collaborative project merged rock and hip-hop. She has said she is working on music that blends the two genres. That background fits the hip-hop influence fans noticed in “Follow Your Heart.”
Chester Bennington died in 2017. His death left a lasting mark on fans and on his family. Draven has spoken openly about how his legacy is remembered. She has said she wants to change how people think about her father and the way his story is told.
“I want to change the narrative.”
His widow, Talinda Bennington, launched the nonprofit 320 Changes Direction after his death. The group is named for his March 20 birthday. It aims to change the culture around mental health, mental illness and addiction. It also connects people with resources. It supports families who are helping loved ones through those struggles.
