The statement addressed concerns from fans and clarified the reasons behind the decision to withdraw from concerts.

“Many thanks to everyone who has expressed concern for us. To clear things up, we’ve decided to take some time off after decades of touring because we need a break,” the band wrote. “Not for health reasons. We’ll play our November shows and then take our first break in 50 years. Thank you for all your support!”

The announcement came as Cheap Trick pulled out of several performances scheduled for next year while maintaining their current touring commitments through the end of this year.

Cheap Trick has been performing almost without pause since their formation in 1973. The band took the stage more than 5,000 times throughout their career and sold over 20 million albums worldwide. Their original lineup of singer Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson, and drummer Bun E. Carlos stayed together from 1973 until 2010, with a brief exception between 1980 and 1987 when Petersson stepped away. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

The touring hiatus follows the release of the band’s 21st studio album, “All Washed Up,” in November 2025. The record marked their first new album since 2021’s “In Another World” and was produced by Cheap Trick with longtime collaborator Julian Raymond. The “All Washed Up Tour” was scheduled to run through November 2026.

The break represents a significant moment for a group that has defined itself by relentless touring and performing. Cheap Trick played small venues and large arenas, opened for bigger acts and headlined their own shows, but have now decided that after more than five decades of continuous work on the road, rest is necessary.
