Chad Smith’s First Reaction To Jared Leto’s Rock Band, ‘Some Kind Of Emo Thing’

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith recently spoke with Drumeo and reacted to Jared Leto’s Thirty Seconds To Mars.

The hosts first asked Smith to spontaneously drum along to a track they’d be playing, so when a random song started to fill the room, the drummer started to show off his skills.

However, when Drumeo questioned Chad about his guess regarding what he might be playing, the rocker seemed to be confused. He briefly said:

“What the f*ck was that? Is that like My Chemical Romance or something? It’s some kind of emo thing… I don’t know what the f*ck was that. What is that? Wait [continues to think further and sighs]. I don’t know.”

Still, when the song was revealed to be ‘The Kill’ by Thirty Seconds To Mars, Chad seemed quite familiar with the name:

“Oh, Jared’s [Leto] band! Yeah, his brother [Shannon Leto] is the drummer.”

Smith then seemed to be very relieved upon learning it was Leto’s discography he’d been scoring, as he explained whether it was ‘terrifying’ to be playing to a random song:

“No. Once I realized it was three, I was like, ‘Okay. I can play along with this…'”

He even had a business offer, addressed to the actor:

“I’m gonna call Jared and say, ‘If your brother gets sick, you got a new gig.'”

However, it seemed that not everyone would be as enthusiastic about possibly joining Thirty Seconds To Mars, as when the hosts jokingly asked Chad whether his RHCP bandmate, Flea, also would be willing to join Leto’s band, the drummer briefly answered:

“I don’t think so.”
