Chad Smith Opens Up About The Possibility Of Red Hot Chili Peppers Retirement

AXS TV’s YouTube Channel recently released footage from Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith’s appearance on Rock & Roll Road Trip With Sammy Hagar. Smith revealed whether the band is planning to retire soon or not, along with his own thoughts about their future plans.

In the 15the episode of Rock & Roll Road Trip With Sammy Hagar, Chad Smith was Hagar’s guest. They went to the studio to record new songs for Chickenfoot which is a supergroup including Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, Hagar, and Smith. During the interview, Hagar wanted Smith to express his ideas about Red Hot Chili Peppers’ longevity and asked how long they will go on producing, releasing and performing.

The drummer responded to the question by stating that he’s so tired, but they don’t have any plans about retiring because they still love creating and performing music together. Therefore, as it can be understood from Smith’s statement, the band will never say farewell to their fans until they become irrelevant and lose their passion.

Smith stated in his interview that:

“I think that’s a part of a reason for the longevity of our band.”

Here’s what Hagar asked:

How long do you think the fabric can go?

Smith responded:

“I’m so f-cking tired. I don’t know how long we can go. As long as we keep loving what we are doing and are feeling relevant, making new music. Everyone is still passionate about being in the band and I mean we’re so fortunate and lucky, people still come out and see us. It’s amazing and I don’t know why our music connects with people like that but it’s a real gift.”

RHCP ended the rumors about their retirement once again after they announced their 2022 Global Stadium Tour along with the upcoming twelfth studio album. The band’s tour will start on June 4, 2022, in Sevilla and end on September 18, 2022, in Arlington.

It’s claimed that Red Hot Chili Peppers will release the album a short time before they begin their tour as a part of promoting it. So, the band’s members can take a deep breath and shouldn’t be worried about possible retirement, especially after Smith’s recent statements.
