Buzz Osborne Declares Himself As The Godfather Of Nirvana And Soundgarden

Melvins frontman Buz Osborne appeared on a recent podcast episode to discuss nu-metal, grunge bands, and his words with Helmet frontman Page Hamilton. While chatting about his nu-metal with the host of ‘Loudwire Nights: On Demand,’ the frontman jokingly stated that he would see himself as the godfather of Nirvana and Soundgarden.

When asked about his favorite nu-metal band, he replied with the following:

“I would answer the nu-metal question. You said, ‘What’s my favorite nu-metal band?’ Well, since they all, to me, sound like Helmet, so I will say Helmet.”

The frontman then shared the story of jokingly declaring himself as the godfather of the two grunge bands during their chat with the Helmet frontman:

“I’ve talked to Page Hamilton [the frontman] before, and I go, ‘I’ll take, I’ll be the godfather of Soundgarden and Nirvana, and you can be the godfather of nu-metal and always say ‘f*ck you.'”

Earlier, Osborne reflected on the influence of his band for Nirvana and Soundgarden. Having worked with Kurt Cobain for many years, the Melvins frontman claimed that the two bands were influenced by his band, stating that the two bands were indirectly connected to Melvins. The frontman also clarified that the influence didn’t bother him since it eventually grew, and the music was recognized globally.

Additionally, Osborne shared his favorite grunge albums with Rolling Stone, mentioning Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ and ‘Bleach,’ and Soundgarden’s ‘Badmotorfinger’ and ‘Superunknown.’
