Bush’s Gavin Rossdale Shares His Biggest Regret About Tupac Shakur

Gavin Rossdale sat down with Classic Rock for a chat and opened up about his regret with Tupac Shakur.

While discussing his encounters with other musicians during his career, Bush’s lead singer said the following about Tupac:

“Sometimes it’s about transcending those meetings where it’s just at an awards show. I met Tupac, and I was upset I didn’t force him to take my number and be friends. This is when hip-hop was really happening and really breaking and starting to take over from rock music. Who wouldn’t want to hang out with him? You have relationships where you see people in that sort of celebrity club or musician-to-musician. I’m always really friendly. I love saying hello to people and seeing what they’re like.”

Rossdale Also Has Another Regret

In the rest of his interview, Rossdale also shared his regret about Evanescence’s Amy Lee, explaining:

“I met Amy a number of years ago. We toured with Evanescence many years ago in Southeast Asia, and we’ve been friends ever since. I think she’s one of the greatest singers, one of my favorite top-ten vocalists of anyone making music, a spectacular singer and piano player. I asked her to sing a song with me at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. I sent her the song, and she sent me a recording of her voice on it, and I was blown away. I said: ‘Can we have this as a record?’ That’s how the version of ‘1000 Years’ with her came about. She’s a great contemporary, and I wish I toured with her more.”

Bush will celebrate their 30th anniversary with a big tour this summer. The Bush – Loaded: The Greatest Hits Tour kicks off on July 26 in Bend, OR, and runs through September 15 in Los Angeles. The tour will have special guests like Jerry Cantrell from Alice In Chains and Candlebox.
