Bruce Springsteen might not need to look far away for inspiration when writing a song because it seems like it just ‘comes to him.’ While recently chatting with Variety about her upcoming film, ‘She Came to Me,’ director Rebecca Miller discussed struggling to ask the rocker to work with her and where the Boss got the inspiration to write an original soundtrack.

Miller’s movie, starring Peter Dinklage, Marisa Tomei, and Anne Hathaway, will have its world premiere only in a couple of days. It will also mark the first time the audience will hear Springsteen’s original track, ‘Addicted to Romance.’ So, with Rebecca undeniably excited about the screening, she decided to talk about how the rocker came into the picture and composed a piece for the film.

The director recalled that even though she’d used Springsteen’s music before in a previous film, she was shy to ask Springsteen if he would be down for the challenge and pen an original soundtrack for ‘She Came to Me.’ Luckily, composer Bryce Dessner encouraged Miller to contact Bruce, saying that the rocker would love the film.

So, after ringing Springsteen and letting the singer and his wife watch the movie in an exclusive screening, the director was happy to hear that he would like to work with her and see if he could write something down in a couple of days. Springsteen ended up writing ‘Addicted to Romance,’ which Miller was especially proud of because, as the rocker said, the inspiration came to him after watching the movie.

Rebecca Miller on being shy to contact Bruce Springsteen and how the rocker created an original soundtrack:

“I really love Bruce’s music. For the end of ‘She Came to Me,’ we wanted an original song. I had a secret wish it might be Bruce, but I was reluctant to ask because I felt it was so unlikely, and frankly, I was a bit shy.

Bryce Dessner encouraged me to ask — he was sure Bruce would love the film, so I approached him. Bruce and [his wife Patti Scialfa] ended up watching the film, and, to my delight, they both loved it.

Bruce said he’d take a few days to see if anything came to him for a song. Miraculously, ‘Addicted to Romance’ was the result. He says he was inspired by the film, which is a great honor for me.”

When he needed inspiration to write a soundtrack for Miller’s film, Bruce Springsteen didn’t need to search for long as it came to him right after watching the movie. So, if you want to hear what ‘Addicted to Romance’ sounds like, we encourage you to check out ‘She Came to Me’ and see what wonders Bruce wrote down.
