Brian ‘Head’ Welch recently reflected on the significant impact Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne had on Korn’s early career. He shared his thoughts in a statement posted on Instagram.

The Korn guitarist opened up about his childhood connection to Ozzy Osbourne. He also discussed how both Ozzy and Sharon welcomed the band into the metal community during their formative years.

“Man, I keep thinking about how much Ozzy meant to me growing up. He wasn’t just a legend—he was part of my childhood,” Welch said. “I even named one of our cats OZZY! It was appropriately named, we had to get rid of it because the stupid cat was so crazy!”

Welch went on to emphasize the profound impact the Osbournes had on Korn’s trajectory as a band.

“But It still blows my mind that when Korn was barely starting out, both Ozzy Osbourne and Sharon Osbourne welcomed us into the metal world with open arms like family,” he continued. “Personally, their belief in us played a huge role in building my confidence for how far Korn could go. I’ll never forget that.”

Welch’s comments shed light on the crucial behind-the-scenes support that helped shape one of metal’s most influential bands during their formative years.

Sharon Osbourne’s influence in the metal world extends far beyond her role as Ozzy’s manager and wife. Wikipedia reported that she founded Sharon Osbourne Management, which has represented major acts including The Smashing Pumpkins and Motörhead. This established her as a significant force in shaping the metal and rock landscape.

The connection between Korn and the Osbournes became more concrete through touring opportunities. Ultimate Guitar noted that Korn toured with Ozzy during their early years. Sharon’s supportive presence was particularly noted by band members, demonstrating her hands-on approach to fostering connections within the metal community.

Sharon’s management philosophy has always centered on nurturing talent and building lasting relationships in the industry. Her ability to recognize potential in emerging bands and provide them with the guidance and opportunities needed to succeed has been a hallmark of her career spanning several decades.

The comments highlight the often unseen mentorship role that established artists play in supporting emerging talent in the music industry. The Osbournes serve as prime examples of how industry veterans can help shape the next generation of metal acts.
