Billy Joel recently shared his controversial opinion about The Beatles’ “White Album,” expressing his criticism of the iconic record during an appearance on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast.
The musician offered a blunt assessment of the 1968 double album, questioning the quality and completion of its songs.
“I’m not a big fan of The Beatles ‘White Album,’ but some people love it,” Joel said. “I hear it as a collection of half-assed songs they didn’t finish writing because they were too stoned, or they didn’t care anymore.”
Joel elaborated on his perspective, suggesting the band was working with incomplete material during that period.
“I think they had fragments and they put them on the album,” he continued. “John [Lennon] was disassociating at that point. Paul [McCartney] carrying the weight.”
The comments represent a rare public criticism of one of The Beatles’ most celebrated works from a fellow music industry veteran.
