Billy Idol Admits Not Expecting To Reach The Doors’ Level

Last month, the three-time Grammy Award nominee Billy Idol was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame nearly 40 years after the release of his self-titled debut album. The singer recently chatted with Matt Pinfield of 95.5 KLOS about having a permanent spot amongst many influential names, including the Doors.
The frontman, who started his journey in the industry with Generation X back home in England, made the big move to the US to get a fresh start. Still, while they were making punk rock music, he never thought that his career would continue for this long.
Even though he was doubtful about the longevity of his career in the US, Idol became a recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in early 2023. So, punk rock, which seemed like a gamble back in the day, turned into so much more and has allowed him to have a spot next to artists like Leonard Bernstein and not to mention the legendary band the Doors.
Billy Idol’s words about receiving the star on the Walk of Fame:
“Yeah, it is [exciting]. It’s pretty wild, yeah. We did the star creation the other day, and just even doing that brings home to you, ‘Wow, this is really happening,’ and it’s pretty wild to be standing there and even like this Leonard Bernsteins near me just thinking about the other people who’ve been honored over the years. It’s pretty wild to be included even remotely, [it’s] just wild. David Bowie and the Beatles, I mean, there’s so many… the Doors, so many musical artists, Brando and everybody.
I mean, it’s pretty crazy, and you just would never have thought. When we were starting in punk rock, you know, because we are only doing it, we thought, ‘It’ll last six months, maybe a year, if we’re lucky, two years,’ but you know, here we are, million years later. I could never have imagined any of this, so it’s pretty wild.”
In Idol’s words, ‘after million years’ in the industry, the singer has not only lived a life in music but also has achieved so much success, even though he didn’t expect that level of fame as a punk. The cherry on top was having a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which is pretty much any artist’s dream. He now gets to have moving forward.
