In a new interview with Radio Futuro, Faith No More bassist Billy Gould opened up about the band’s decision to go on a semi-permanent hiatus.

“I don’t know, I honestly don’t know,” the bassist said about the band’s future. “You don’t have to believe me, there’s nothing right now. We’re in a really weird spot, really strange spot and I can’t really tell you what’s going on. I don’t know myself. I get different information from people and I’m in the band, so that’s it.”

When the interviewer asked if Gould called the shots in the band, he responded, “Not really. If I did, probably we’d be playing in Chile next week.”

Faith No More members announced their decision in late October last year. The band hadn’t played any proper shows in nine years before the announcement. Although the band is not officially broken up, keyboardist and rhythm guitarist Roddy Bottum shared an update on their status in a Substack post.

Bottum wrote, “I’ve made a life for myself making music. With Faith No More and then Imperial Teen. I live in NYC and I work with my boyfriend in a band called MAN ON MAN and two awesome friends in a band called CRICKETS and also sometimes the horror art project gnarl core Nastie Band. FNM is kind of on semi permanent hiatus and Imperial Teen is making a record slowly but definitely.”

He added, “I wrote an opera about Sasquatch a couple years ago but I can talk about all those projects later. I’m here in anticipation of a book I’ve written, it’s a memoir called The Royal We. It’s my first foray into writing and it’s exciting and scary and a whole new world for me.”

Faith No More’s situation became unclear after their 2022 tour dates were canceled. The shows had been delayed in 2021 due to Patton’s mental health issues and agoraphobia. Patton recovered enough to tour in 2022 with Mr. Bungle, but there has been no update on Faith No More since.

The band’s last show with Patton was in October 2015 at the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, California. The other members played a few shows with the late singer Chuck Mosley in August 2016.
