Beach Boys visionary Brian Wilson is currently grappling with dementia, and his family has revealed that he is no longer capable of self-care following the passing of his wife and manager.

In response to this situation, longstanding members of his team have submitted an application to establish a conservatorship to ensure his well-being. It is emphasized that, under the conservatorship, the 81-year-old Wilson will still have the freedom to make personal choices.

Wilson’s family told People in a statement:

“Following the passing of Brian’s beloved wife Melinda, after careful consideration and consultation among Brian, his seven children, Gloria Ramos and Brian’s doctors… we are confirming that longtime Wilson family representatives LeeAnn Hard and Jean Sievers will serve as Brian’s co-conservators of the person.”

The statement continued:

“This decision was made to ensure that there will be no extreme changes to the household and Brian and the children living at home will be taken care of and remain in the home where they are cared for by Gloria Ramos and the wonderful team at the house who have been in place for many years helping take care of the family. Brian will be able to enjoy all of his family and friends and continue to work on current projects as well as participate in any activities he chooses.”

The Passing Of Melinda Ledbetter

Ledbetter passed away on January 30 at the age of 77. She had been a significant support to him in navigating his mental illness. According to the documents, Melinda played a crucial role in addressing Mr. Wilson’s daily living requirements, as he is incapable of adequately managing his own personal needs related to physical health, food, clothing, or shelter. Additionally, the singer had an ‘Advance Health Care Directive,’ designating Melinda as the ‘agent’ responsible for his healthcare decisions.

Wilson and Melinda tied the knot in 1995 and, together, they adopted Dakota Rose, Daria Rose, Delanie Rose, Dylan, and Dash. In the announcement of her passing, Wilson referred to her as his ‘savior.’

A court hearing is slated for April 26, as indicated in the documents.
