Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante has confirmed that the band will release a new song at the end of 2025. He offered fans a preview of their upcoming album in a recent appearance on the Talk Is Jericho podcast.

Benante discussed the band’s plans for new music and provided details about the album’s artwork during the interview.

“We’re gonna release a song at the end of this year, to give people a taste of what’s to come,” Benante said.

The drummer also shared insights about the creative process behind the album’s visual design.

“I just finished the album cover, and that is fucking trippy as hell,” he continued. “I designed it with this artist, who is killer. You know David Blaine, the magician. He did a six-part series recently [National Geographic’s ‘Do Not Attempt’], and Mark [Stutzman], the artist, he did a lot of the conceptual art for it.”

This announcement comes as part of Anthrax’s broader plans for their highly anticipated return to new music after an extended period between releases.

Metal Injection reported that the new album is planned for release in September or October 2025. This marks the band’s first full-length release in approximately eight years. The extended gap between albums has built significant anticipation among the metal community for the thrash legends’ return.

Bassist Frank Bello has revealed that the band will embark on major touring plans around the album release timeframe. BraveWords noted that Bello expressed excitement about the upcoming touring cycle. He stated that there are “very big shows being planned right now” that he couldn’t discuss in detail at the time.

The collaboration with artist Mark Stutzman represents a unique creative partnership for the band’s visual presentation. Blabbermouth detailed how Benante discovered Stutzman’s work while watching David Blaine’s National Geographic documentary series. This led to what he described as a serendipitous artistic connection.

“It’s so weird how things happen to me,” Benante explained in the interview. “I was looking for an artist and I’m watching this David Blaine documentary, and there’s this art, which is exactly what I wanted. And I contacted him, and he loved the idea and he was a fan. So it’s so crazy how things just turn out that way.”
