Lou Gramm has addressed speculation about his potential permanent return to Foreigner following Kelly Hansen’s announced departure from touring. He shared his thoughts in a recent interview with Ethan Dometrius.
The discussion came amid ongoing questions about Gramm’s role in the band’s future. Hansen announced he would step back from touring. When asked about the possibility of singing several songs at every show on Foreigner’s upcoming tour, Gramm provided clarity on his involvement.
“Well, I may do that. I’m sure we’re gonna talk about it at some point,” Gramm said.
He elaborated on the current discussions with the band’s management regarding his participation.
“And the prospect is good. I don’t wanna tour intensively all summer, but I talked to Foreigner management and they would like me to pop up for every other show or something,” he continued.
This statement comes as Foreigner prepares for their upcoming tour schedule. Hansen’s decision to reduce his touring commitments prompted these discussions.
Gramm’s recent comments reflect a significant shift in his relationship with the band he co-founded in 1976. The original vocalist’s willingness to participate in select shows marks a notable development in Foreigner’s ongoing evolution.
Blabbermouth reported that Gramm has indicated he will continue performing with Foreigner for another year or so as part of their upcoming tours. This commitment suggests a more structured approach to his involvement with the band than his previous sporadic appearances.
The timing of these discussions coincides with Foreigner’s recent recognition in the music industry. People revealed that Gramm has been working on letting go of past issues with the band. This became more apparent since Foreigner’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2024.
The band’s upcoming tour plans include international dates where Gramm’s participation has already been confirmed. Antimusic confirmed that Foreigner’s Latin American leg will feature Gramm as a guest performer alongside Luis Maldonado. Maldonado will handle most of the vocals during Hansen’s reduced availability.
However, Gramm’s long-term touring plans remain limited. Ultimate Classic Rock noted that the vocalist has mentioned intentions to retire from touring by 2025. He previously announced a solo album release and a limited touring schedule for early next year.
