Vogue Williams has criticized Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis, saying he lost his appeal after dating a 19-year-old woman while he was 54. The Irish media personality shared her thoughts on the My Therapist Ghosted Me podcast.
Williams’ comments centered on Kiedis’ former relationship with Australian model Helena Vestergaard, who was 19 when the pair began dating. She expressed her disappointment despite being a fan of the band.
“Do you know who else I find really disappointing? Hasn’t broken the law, but really disappointing cuz I really like the Red Hot Chili Peppers,” Williams said. “Anthony Kiedis, and he’s like 54 or something, and he’s going out with a 19-year-old. And it’s like, dude, like, what are you talking about?”
Williams went on to explain why she felt uncomfortable generalizing her criticism, while still questioning the dynamics of such an age gap.
“I would have to say it’s not all men because I do think that for that it’s a very specific thing especially like I mean I just like with things like that I just I don’t understand like what am I going to talk to let’s say a 16-year-old about?” she continued. “How was school? Like did you have fun in school with your friends? I know. And like what’s did you get your new pencil case? It’s September’s coming up. Like who’s covering your books for you?”
She then addressed how the relationship affected her view of the musician, noting that even people close to her share the sentiment.
“I actually think that I wouldn’t ride him anymore because I do think people look at it and they’re like it’s just like even Spenny loves the Red Hot Chili Peppers and I told him and he was like ııhh,” Williams said. “It is just like just because you can doesn’t mean you should.”
Kiedis has not publicly responded to Williams’ remarks. However, this is far from the first time his relationship with Vestergaard has drawn scrutiny.
Kiedis and Vestergaard began dating in early 2013, when she was 19 and he was in his early 50s, putting their age gap at roughly 31 to 32 years. Their relationship lasted about two years before ending in late 2014. Old photos of the couple later resurfaced online multiple times, including a viral moment in 2024 that reignited criticism from fans who called the pairing inappropriate given the decades-long age difference.
Kiedis has addressed the relationship himself in the past, discussing the breakup in a BBC Radio interview not long after it ended. He has also had other high-profile relationships with much younger women, including his current girlfriend, sex columnist and podcaster Eileen Kelly, with whom he shares a reported 33-year age gap.
Williams’ comments echo a broader pattern of public criticism directed at Kiedis over his dating history. This suggests the singer’s romantic choices continue to shape how fans and commentators view him, regardless of his musical legacy.
