Amon Amarth have announced their new album The Allfather Awakens, set for release on October 2, with the first single ‘Gjallarhorn’ now available.
The band confirmed the release alongside details about the album’s accompanying singles. Guitarist Olavi Mikkonen also shed light on the recording process behind the new record.
“Our new album THE ALLFATHER AWAKENS will be released on October 2 featuring the new singles ‘Gjallarhorn’ and ‘Upphaf,'” the band said.
Mikkonen elaborated on the methodical approach the band took in the studio, describing a song-by-song workflow that prioritized quality at every stage.
“We worked on one song at a time and made each song as good as possible,” Mikkonen said. “Then we recorded one song at a time until each track was totally finished — drums, guitars, and vocals. Only then did we start on the next one.”
The album marks a deliberate step forward for the band, not just in process but in sound, with notable changes made to the gear used during recording.
For The Allfather Awakens, Amon Amarth moved away from the 5150 amps they had previously relied on, returning instead to Marshalls in pursuit of a less modern, more classic guitar tone. The shift reflects the band’s intent to strip things back and let the songwriting breathe without the polish of a contemporary metal production.
The album is set to be a substantial release, with the CD version containing 16 tracks in total. That track count places The Allfather Awakens among the band’s more expansive records, suggesting the song-by-song approach Mikkonen described did not limit the album’s scope. Each of those tracks, by the band’s own account, was completed in full before the next was begun.
The Allfather Awakens is due out on October 2, with further details about the album expected to follow.
