Actress Sally Kirkland Confesses Her Obsession With Bob Dylan

Golden Globe winner Sally Kirkland recently spoke to Daily Mail and confessed her decades-long obsession with Bob Dylan.

The actress, now 82, first recalled how she ‘fell in love’ with the folk singer upon seeing him on stage, when she was only 22:

“I was obsessed, oh, God, yeah. He is the reason I am single and is definitely the love of my life. I fell in love with him the second I saw him perform on stage. I was 22 at the time. I was working as a waitress at Café Figaro in New York.”

Apparently, when the pair met later on, Bob also seemed ‘impressed’ by Kirkland as he uttered the words, ‘You remind me of a girl from the North Country,’ which, according to Kirkland, inspired his 1963 ballad ‘Girl From the North Country.’

However, as Dylan was already romantically linked to Joan Baez in the early 60s and, later on, married Sara Lownds in 1965, the actress expressed that she couldn’t confess her feelings to the folk icon. Still, that didn’t mean Kirkland would give up:

“When Bob moved to LA in 72, I was living in New York City still, working as a stage actress. I said to myself, ‘I am not going to stop until I am with him.’ So, I moved too.”

Then, when she divorced her husband, Michael, and Dylan also separated from Lownds, the actress explained how she saw this as an opportunity to get close:

“When I was just divorced from my husband Michael and he was legally separated from Sara, I used to send Bob the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness newspaper.”

Their divorces, apparently, brought the pair even closer, as it seemed that Kirkland finally found the courage to open up to Bob and get together with him:

“I didn’t get romantic with Bob until I was in my 30s. When we started dating, I finally got to tell him what I had been waiting to tell him since I was 22 years old, which was how I felt about him.”

Later on in the chat, Sally also revealed how the couple had an on-and-off relationship for the upcoming next two decades, starting from the 70s up until the late 90s:

“We got together in the late ’70s, had another affair in the mid-’80s, and then another one in the ’90s.”

Still, due to their ‘hectic schedules,’ Kirkland expressed the pair couldn’t stay together for long. However, the actress also claimed how their ‘on-and-off’ relationship was no trouble as Sally felt she had been together with Bob in her ‘previous lives,’ and that ‘made up’ for their time spent separately.
