AC/DC Fans Rally For Phil Rudd’s Comeback

AC/DC recently celebrated drummer Phil Rudd’s 70th birthday with a post on Instagram on May 19. Many fans congratulated the drummer in the comments section but also complained about his absence from the band’s ‘Power Up’ 2024 tour:

“It’s time for Phil to come back. It’s not the same without him or Cliff.”

A fan wished:

“May Phil Rudd’s birthday present be his return behind the drums for AC/DC.”

Another person wrote:

“Happy Birthday, Phil. We pray for your return!”

The Band Moves On With A New Lineup

Phil Rudd stepped down from performing live with AC/DC in 2023 to spend more time with his partner, who is battling cancer. Matt Laug has stepped in as the drummer for the new tour.

The band also brought in bassist Chris Chaney to take over for the retired Cliff Williams. Their tour announcement in February read:

“We are thrilled to finally announce the ‘Power Up’ European Tour. Angus, Brian, Stevie, and Matt will be joined by Chris Chaney to carry the torch for Cliff. The tour will see us play shows across Germany, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, England, Slovakia, Belgium, France, & Ireland this Summer. We can’t wait to see you all out there.”

Their Comeback Tour Continues

The ‘Power Up’ tour kicked off last week in Germany. The Pretty Reckless opened for AC/DC on May 17 and will continue to support them throughout the European dates.

The Reckless vocalist Taylor Momsen commented on their first show:

“Night one with AC/DC… Exhausted, jet lagged, but so excited I can’t sleep… So tired, but in a good way, thank you Germany and Veltins Arena for a great tour kickoff.”

AC/DC will perform again in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, on May 21. They will then head to Italy for their next concert on May 25.
